Cartoons

The book is not a cartoon. But the strips are the wave from across the room: each one points to an idea in the book. Click a strip to enlarge it.

Gonglomerate

An organization where silos keep each other hostage, in six panels: the definition, the profitable-but-stuck company, every silo blaming a silo, AI sold as a fix-everything bottle, the Gonglomerate Check, and the book.

Six-panel cartoon strip about the Gonglomerate: a dictionary definition, a profitable but stuck company, silos blaming each other in a circle, a salesman selling AI as a fix-everything bottle, a Gonglomerate checklist, and the book’s title panel.Enlarge

Intent

The most overlooked word in the AI era. Big transformations rarely work: one in 200. The AI world answers with semantic layers, context and ontology. The book’s answer is plainer: tell the machine what you’re for, in plain words. It’s just Markdown.

Six-panel cartoon strip about intent: a dictionary panel calling intent the most overlooked word in the AI era; a grid of failed transformations with one success, 1 in 200; a confused person facing a cloud of words, semantic layer, context, ontology, while a robot suggests adding a semantic layer; a person writing an intent document that hits a target, with the robot giving a thumbs up; the words It’s just Markdown over an intent file; and the book’s title panel.Enlarge

The idea: The Organizational Brain

Not from the book

On the lighter side

Not from the book. The most-read cartoon on Kimmo’s LinkedIn earned its place here anyway.

Back to the Future, Part IV

In the early ‘90s everything was command line: we tuned autoexec.bat and config.sys at the DOS prompt. Then came the rescue, Windows 95: point, click, drag. Web apps, dashboards and mobile apps made things prettier still. In November 2022, ChatGPT let us type plain language into the computer. Magic. And now, in 2026, the most powerful tools are back in the terminal. Hardcore developers never left its glow. For the rest of us, advanced users but not deep coders, it is a return to the future.

Four-panel cartoon. 1960s to 1990s, Command line: a worried man at a green-screen terminal asks What do I type? 1990s to 2000s, Click here: the same man, happy, with a mouse and windows: Much better. 2000s to 2020s, Tap, swipe, done: he taps a phone full of apps: Easy. AI era, Back to the command line: he stares at a terminal again, Wait, I’ve seen this before, while a small robot says On it.Enlarge
